The Mr. Gym Band is an all-star group of educators who perform movement based music for kids! Making their debut in the summer of 2011, the band is currently in the studio recording their new CD "Movin' 2 Music." The band members are all Connecticut public school teachers who have joined their talents to create music that audiences of all ages enjoy!
Chris Keithan aka "Mr. Gym" has a Master’s Degree is Physical Education and is a certified physical education & health teacher. With over 15 years of experience working with elementary age children, Chris is able to connect with his audience, who become active participants of every performance! Mr. Gym strives to motivate children to lead a healthy, active lifestyle and educate them about personal fitness and the positive effects it has on the body. Through his songs & lyrics, Mr. Gym is able to incorporate the importance of physical activity while having fun! In 2008, Mr. Gym released his first solo CD "Freeze Dance" and has played over 200 shows in CT, MA, & NY.
Ben Golder-Novick can be seen & heard playing saxophone, flute, & clarinet. He is currently an intermediate school band teacher and has played with Max Creek, Jay Geils, and The Blind Boys of Alabama. Ron Spears holds down a steady groove on bass guitar. He is a high school history teacher who was the bassist for “The Breakfast,” a nationally touring jam band from New Haven, CT. Eric Korp is a world percussionist, who plays djembe, dumbeck, congas, bongos, & shakers. He teaches elementary physical education and leads monthly drum circles for both children and adults.
The Mr. Gym Band is a band of teachers who really know how to ROCK! Children, as well as parents, can be seen dancing, singing, clapping, exercising, smiling, and laughing throughout the show! When school is out, The Mr. Gym Band hits the road and jams out! Their movement based "COOL" music gets kids up and active on the first note!
